For this weeks real wedding we spoke to Katie and Ben who got married in Grande Real Santa Eulalia in Albufeira. Thank you for sharing your beautiful wedding guys:
We always wanted to get married abroad and after researching online about legalities and rules we came across the Algarve and it seemed like the perfect place.
Our wedding journey began when we contacted Algarve wedding planners online, they advised us that they were holding a wedding show in London so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to go and meet them.
On the day we met Karina, who soon after the meeting became our wedding planner. We discussed what kind of wedding we wanted and she helped to advise on everything that we would need.
We also met Angela from Grande Real Santa Eulalia hotel, we had already been looking at the venue online but after meeting Angela and speaking more about what was available we fell in love with the venue and provisionally booked for 21st May the following year (2017).
Following the meeting in London we booked a trip to Portugal to visit the venue and check it was everything we wanted for our big day. When we visited the hotel we loved it even more and our provisional date became our actual date!
During our trip Karina also arranged other meetings. We met Nicole (who was our singer) and 2 different photographers.
I can definitely recommend meeting with the photographers as after the meetings it was easy to make a decision on who we wanted to go with.
We liked the idea of having a singer or a band and before going to Portugal Karina had sent me some suggestions and youtube links to different people. We listened to Nicole and really liked her music, then meeting her in person sealed the deal and we booked her there and then.
Now we were back home with a list of decisions to make. Karina was great for sending suggestions but we also used Facebook a lot for recommendations and research.
In the October we went back over to Portugal for our food tasting which was amazing. I also had a hair and make up trial during this time.
I brought my dress in England, I went for a fairly light weight chiffon dress which I was worried about creasing but after only having it in the box for less than 24hours it came out without a crease! I used a travel box which I brought online and complied with Jet2 hand luggage, so allowed me to keep my dress with me at all times.
Suits were from Next, very light weight cotton and perfect for the wedding aboard.
We kept the wedding styling simple, our colour theme was mint colour and mainly had gypsophila for decoration and for the bridesmaid bouquets.
On the day we had a celebrant, his name was Jonas and he really was great. We met him a few days before the wedding and he asked us about our lives so far. Considering we only met him for a short time when he spoke at the ceremony it sounded like he had known us our who lives.
The venue was amazing and the staff could not be faulted. Our guests could not compliment the food enough and everyone said it was the best wedding they had ever been too.
The fact you are so close to the beach allows you to get some great photos as the sun sets down on the beach, a real highlight of our day.
Last but not least Nicole Silver, if your looking for a wedding singer she is your lady. What an amazing voice and great entertainer she is.
The only thing I would have liked to have changed was to be able to have the wedding breakfast outside but unfortunately on the day it was just too windy for them to be able to set up. But the tables still looked lovely and none of the guests knew any different so it really didn’t matter and we still had the best day ever!
Our tip to all bride and grooms to be is; enjoy every last minute of your day. Its over before you know it!!
